From the announcement of our first tech event, Civo Navigate, to building a machine learning landscape, 2023 has been an incredible year for Civo. Last year enabled us to shift our focus towards community engagement, product enhancements, and sustainability, allowing us to foster a more robust, inclusive, and environmentally conscious technology ecosystem.

Let’s take a look back at the incredible work the team has been working on over the past year and what we can expect to see in 2024.

Civo 2023 - a year in review

Product launches

In 2023, we announced our new machine learning platform, Civo ML, powered by Kubeflow. This was part of our aim to ensure that the machine learning ecosystem is designed from the ground up to enable rapid development and simple orchestration in a productivity-centric way. Throughout the year, we…

Earlier in 2023, we made the commitment to enhance platform robustness, customization, and security. To fulfill this promise, we introduced a series of tools, services, and partnerships in 2023, including:

  • Started integrating Talos Linux with K3s, shifting towards Talos Linux for our tenant clusters.
  • Announced Civo Platform, our fully-managed PaaS solution that allows you to build, launch, and scale your app with ease.
  • Launched the Alpha version of our Kubernetes system with Intel Corporation, featuring secure enclaves as part of our hardware-based Confidential Computing solution.
  • Released new applications to the Civo Marketplace, including Uptime-Kuma, WeaveScope, and Percona Monitoring and Management, allowing users to install their favorite Kubernetes applications in seconds.
  • Partnered with Heata, a company that uses waste heat from servers, we're utilizing server waste heat to provide cost-effective compute resources for Civo customers. This collaboration, focusing on reducing energy costs in areas like social housing, offers Heata's units as edge nodes for running workloads, marking a significant step in sustainable server heat reuse.

At Civo, we're committed to demystifying technology for everyone. We're part of a global tech community dedicated to innovative, inclusive change. Recognizing this, education is key, enabling organizations of all sizes to embrace upcoming advancements. This ethos led to the launch of Civo Navigate where we...

We aimed to engage more with our community beyond Navigate this year, fostering increased connections and interactions. This allowed us to do the following:

What to expect from 2024

Product launches

Throughout 2024, we will be expanding upon our machine learning landscape to continue paving the way for a more cost-effective and disruptive approach to machine learning, including:

  • Introducing our GPU range, including NVIDIA L40S GPUs, NVIDIA H100 Tensor Core GPUs, and NVIDIA H200 Grace Hopper Tensor Core GPUs.
  • Launching Civo Recite for precise audio-to-text transcription powered by OpenAI & Kubernetes.
  • Introducing Recite, a free lightning fast audio-to-text transcription powered by OpenAI & Kubernetes, entering the Alpha stage this year.

In a recent blog post, Josh Mesout, our Chief Innovation Officer, reflected on the industry-wide impact of AI advancements, particularly with tools like ChatGPT. He emphasized that we are entering a new era where the potential of AI is being realized across various sectors, marking a significant shift in the industry landscape.

Further developments will be made to Civo Platform throughout 2024, which is currently available in Alpha. This helps simplify application development by letting us do the heavy lifting, allowing users to concentrate on building out their platform.

With two Navigate events already announced for this year, we will continue to put education within the community at the forefront of what we do in 2024, such as:

  • Civo Navigate will be heading back to North America for the second time. This time, we will be going to Austin, Texas, for Navigate North America 2024.
  • Civo is hosting our first Navigate Local event, a bite-sized event with all the same tracks, workshops, talks, and amazing people from our flagship Civo Navigate events.
  • Widening the horizon for Disruptive Tech meetups with events planned in Washington, London, and India.
  • Monthly online meetups with our community to showcase and discuss some of the latest ideas and solutions.

During Navigate North America 2024, we will be hosting a session where we will unveil Civo’s latest technological innovations and our full roadmap for 2024. This forward-looking overview will highlight our goals for enhancing user experience, security, and performance in the cloud computing realm.
