Hi everyone, welcome to the forum. As you have no doubt noticed, the community aspect of Civo is something we’ve really been trying to foster since day one!

We’ve had great feedback and ideas from you – as such we’ve been itching to release this so you guys can connect, collaborate and exchange ideas.

A few things you might want to know…

    How to change username?

By default your username is your first name and first letter of your surname, but you can change this. Just visit your profile in the top right, and hit your name – this will bring up your profile, you can edit from there.

How can new users sign-up to the forum?

To sign up to the forum you have to be a Civo user. User accounts and forum profiles are one and the same. So whilst we’re in beta, anybody that wants to join the forum will need to be accepted into the beta. Out of beta anyone who joins Civo (with paid services or not) can contribute to the forum.

Got feedback / found a bug?

We’ve built this forum from the ground up, so with so many moving parts, we’re probably going to have a few bugs lingering around. If you spot anything, either hit us on chat, or let us know in this thread below.

Also, can we ask that you keep the bugs in this thread only, it’ll make it easier for us to kept track.

That’s all from me, so welcome to the forum. Let us know what you think!

A couple of things I've just noticed...

    • On threads, it looks like you can PM yourself (link under profile pic), but naturally the link destination errors out
    • Looks like heading markdown code no longer works?

    Doh! That's a @jamesb change I think 😉

Heading markdown code? Thread titles? They were never supposed to be markdown (only bodies). Or do you mean using h1, h2, h3 etc (we don't really want those in forum posts I think personally, but open to having them styled correctly and enabling them if everyone disagrees).

In testing last week I had used H1/2/3 in posts. H3 looked quite nice as an in-post heading. Not a must-have for me tbh

I think style them correctly but still allow them. If you're concerned about "proper HTML usage" I'd suggest you force h1's to be hashtags, and render them accordingly. However that implies you even want to support hashtags 🤦‍♂️

I'd also suggest you translate emojis into :emoji-name: blocks too, putting aside the simplicity of storing emojis it'll also let you do-your-own. Who doesn't want a :civo: emoji? 😂

    Concur!

As for editing posts. I beleve currently there's a 10 min window or so after you've posted... then it's locked. We may have to revist that if the community feels it's an issue.

As @RickyL says we have a short window to allow for users to think "Damn, that sounded better in my head" and re-type bits, but we don't want people altering history too much as other parts of the conversation may be referring to it.

Have we learned nothing from Back to the Future about potentially altering history!? (showing my age)

Happy to adjust the window (or maybe remove it completely) if the community finds it too restrictive though.

Haha. We have. That Hollywood was way too optimistic in estimating how far along we'd be with hoverboard technology by now.

It'd be great if comment preview mode showed where the links were, as I inadvertently clicked on one and lost the comment I was writing. Some kind of draft saving ability with automatic restoration might not be a bad idea, either, but that might be overkill. You'd think Firefox could manage this, but in some cases it seems not to.

Also, if you put five Markdown links into your profile signature, it gives an error, but it doesn't say what the problem is, so you have to just figure it out. (Alternatively, it might have been an overall length issue.)

Thanks for the feedback, you're right we should show where the links are - sorry you lost your comment! We currently have no plans to add drafts, as you say, the browser normally handles these situations and once we highlight the links that should go a long way to avoiding these situations.

As you suggest it was most likely the overall length that caused the error with your profile signature, but we could definitely handle that a little nicer. Thanks again!
