As organizations increasingly rely on cloud computing to drive their businesses forward, a critical question arises: what happens when the cloud is no longer a trusted partner?
This was a key theme explored at Civo Navigate London 2025, where Civo's leadership team shared their insights on the future of cloud computing and the growing importance of sovereign cloud solutions. In this blog post, we'll dive into the conversation and examine the key takeaways on the topic of sovereign cloud, including the challenges, opportunities, and Civo's vision for the future of cloud computing.

Can organizations truly control their data in the cloud?
The conversation began with Civo's CEO, Mark Boost, highlighting the need for sovereign cloud solutions.
"We live in a world where your precious data is controlled by very few… You play by the hyperscaler's rules. Data sovereignty has become a marketing term and there is little to no legally agreed definition of what it means right now." - Mark Boost, Civo CEO
This lack of control and transparency is a major concern for businesses, particularly those in regulated industries such as finance and healthcare. Our latest research, based on a survey of 1,000+ UK IT decision-makers, found that 84% of IT decision-makers are concerned about geopolitical threats to data access, and 82% would switch from big tech for more data control.
"There's a disconnect between what customers want and what hyperscalers offer… At Civo, we've built a new kind of cloud and defined a better business model to support it. We've listened carefully to our customers and what they're craving: more value, more simplicity, more flexibility, and more transparency." - Mark Boost, Civo CEO
The consequences of this trend are profound. As trust in Big Tech continues to dwindle, organizations are poised to explore alternative cloud providers that can deliver enhanced transparency and agency over their data. This seismic shift has far-reaching implications for the cloud computing landscape, with businesses increasingly clamoring for more adaptable and tailored solutions that cater to their unique requirements.
What is Civo doing?
At Civo Navigate London 2025, we announced our mission to free businesses to build without limits in the cloud, bringing together the freedom of public & the sovereignty of private cloud. Dinsesh Majrekar (Civo CTO) spoke about the company's vision for sovereign cloud during this mainstage session by saying:
"When we're talking about sovereignty and especially in an IT world, we're usually making the choice between a public cloud and a massive deployment like one of the hyperscalers… However, we're giving you an option now where you're able to do this using the same technology that we use in a private cloud environment in your own data center." - Dinesh Majrekar, Civo CTO
FlexCore, Civo’s cloud-in-a-box solution, makes it easy for organisations to run workloads seamlessly across public and private environments with feature parity between both, in locations of the user’s choice. This provides customers with more control over their data and infrastructure, and allows them to deploy cloud-native applications in a secure and sovereign environment.

Oliver Pinson-Roxburgh (Defense.com CEO & Co-founder) spoke at Civo Navigate London 2025 about their experience using FlexCore:
"We wanted data residency and sovereignty, and we needed it to be compliant with various regulations… Civo's Flex Core solution has been a game-changer for us. It allows us to deploy our SAS platform in a secure and sovereign environment, and provides us with the scalability and performance we need to support our customers." - Oliver Pinson-Roxburgh, Defense.com CEO & Co-founder
The importance of AI infrastructure
While FlexCore was a primary focus at Civo Navigate London 2025, we also explored the importance of AI infrastructure and the role that Civo is playing in this space. We heard from Josh Mesout (Civo Cheif Innovation Officer) about the company's investments in GPU acceleration and its commitment to providing customers with the latest hardware including Nvidia B200s, supporting the next wave of generative AI and high-performance workloads.
"We're not just providing a cloud infrastructure, we're providing a platform that can support the entire AI lifecycle. We're one of the only providers to enable UK in-country processing. If you're looking at legal records in the UK or UK hospital records, we're one of the only providers that can not only keep that data being sent to the model in the country, but the entire lifecycle of all agentic functionality behind that is also kept inside the same data center." - Josh Mesout, Civo Cheif Innovation Officer
