We renovated the Civo Community Slack: Here's what changed and why

The Civo Community Slack has become home to over 35,000 engineers, platform teams, students, and practitioners. It’s one of the things we’re most proud of, a genuine space where the people who use Civo and the people who built Civo are in the same room.
Since starting the Civo Community Slack, we’ve shipped an entirely new brand, launched Konstruct, and expanded our AI infrastructure. The product people are talking about today looks very different from the one most of our community channels were built around. It feels like the right moment to give the workspace a refresh that reflects where we actually are.
So that’s what we did.
A cleaner structure with a clearer purpose
We approached the renovation with one guiding principle: fewer channels, each with a real job. The goal wasn’t to reorganize for the sake of it; it was to make the workspace feel intentional again.
#announcements replaces the old #general channel, renamed in place with all members and history intact. It's now read-only and dedicated to official news from Civo, product releases, events, and maintenance windows. If something significant is happening, this is where it shows up first.
#helping-hands is the new dedicated space for questions and support. Whether it's a quick how-to or something more involved, this is where the Civo team and the broader community work through things together, in public. The value of keeping it public is that good answers compound; the next person with the same question finds the answer already waiting.
#beginners, #random, and a brand new #introductions channel round out the set. Ten channels that had grown quiet over time have been archived, though their history remains fully searchable; nothing disappears, the workspace is just easier to navigate.
Open to everyone
We’ve also made joining completely frictionless. You no longer need a Civo account to be part of the community. Anyone can join with just an email address, auto-approved, no extra steps.

Where this is heading
The next phase is connecting the community directly to the momentum we're building as a company. We've got a lot to share. The community should be where people see it first.
If you're already in the workspace, the changes are live now. If you're not yet a member, come in; the door has never been more open.
Questions, ideas, or thoughts on the direction? Find me in #introductions or reach out directly. This is a starting point and I want to hear what would make it more useful for you.
